Dear DTM Fans,
Last weekend in Spielberg we had everything: sunshine, rain, good racing, excitement, fun, fair motorsports and really unfair motorsport.
On the grid in the rain…
Poor grid girls in the rain and in the uncomfortable high heels!
Saturday we had amazing sunshine and quite a few surprises in store. Over the last two years, Spielberg was BMW territory. But already in free practice, it was obvious that BMW was struggling quite a bit.
This is me with Marco Wittmann
We then saw an amazing race from Edo Mortara. From pole to victory, despite the fact that he has a broken thumb. He did a great job.
Talking to Edo Mortara
Unfortunately, Green wasn’t as successful from P2 and thus Pascal Wehrlein snatched the championship leadership.
Pascal Wehrlein on Saturday (here he still was in good spirits!)
We had Hollywood Stars in Spielberg as well – I got to talk to Michael Douglas, who is a F3 fan. But I think after being at the DTM for the first time he is hooked 🙂
„Ich habe keine Ansage gehört. Robert hat so stark gebremst, dass ich in ihn reingefahren bin. Das war halt Racing auf der Kampflinie. Da passiert so etwas“.
Hollywood star Michael Douglas at the DTM. His wife katherine zeta Jones is the lady in yellow behind us. She wasn’t in a good mood.
It’s the Sunday I want to get back to. It’s the last few minutes of the race I am talking about. Pascal Wehrlein and Robert Wickens sandwich Timo Scheider. Robert blocks Timo and Pascal is able to overtake both! But what follows leaves me plain speechless: we hear a voice on team radio of Timo saying “schieb ihn raus”, which means: push him out. And exactly after that, Timo pushes Wickens, and the Canadian slides into Pascal Wehrlein. Both spin and end up in the gravel. Unbelievable. We were all speechless.
Some colleagues say, they have never seen anything like this in motorsport in all their years of experience. In fact, I have not seen anything like that. Especially since it´s so unfair and stupid. I have always known Dr Wolfgang Ulrich – so appearantly made the comment on team radio – to be a very very fair player. Always. He said he didn´t know the button was pushed on team radio, so that Timo could hear… and Timo said, he didn´t hear the team radio and he just had to break and pushed Wickens by accident. All very odd.
Fact is: Timo Scheider was disqualified from the race afterwards by the marshalls. And it is truely important to react to something like that.
I just hope we won´t see anything like that again.
On a quick note – Pascal posted on his facebook account: “Karma kommt zurueck Ihr Zwiebelringe” which means “Karma returns you onionrings”…
But getting back to Sundays race, Ecki had a perfect, fair race and won in pouring rain here in Spielberg. Well deserved!

Now, in less than 4 weeks we have Moscow coming up. Unfortunately, I won´t be there. But I will watch the DTM on TV, and I will be writing my blog again at the race after Moscow.
Having fun with my team
So see you in Oschersleben on the 11th of September.
Take care and play fair,
